Azerbaijan and Morocco enhance parliamentary cooperation
In Baku on June 23, Azerbaijan’s Milli Medjlis Chairwoman, Sahibé Gafarova, held a significant meeting with Mohamed Ghayate, the Vice-President of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco. Mr. Ghayate was visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States Conference.
During their discussions, both parliamentary leaders expressed strong satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Morocco. They underscored that these ties, built on a foundation of mutual respect, have been developing successfully, particularly within the political sphere. The conversation also highlighted the productive collaboration between the two nations within various international organizations, emphasizing their consistent mutual support and solidarity across global platforms.
The critical role of inter-parliamentary dialogue in deepening overall bilateral relations was a central theme. Chairwoman Gafarova fondly recalled her official visit to Morocco and her subsequent engagements with Moroccan counterparts at various international gatherings, noting how these interactions significantly bolster their relationship. It was further acknowledged that the active friendship groups within both legislative bodies serve as vital conduits for advancing these connections. The recent Memorandum of Understanding signed this year between the two parliaments was also cited as opening promising new avenues for even closer ties.
The representatives also commended the robust cooperation between their respective parliaments within international parliamentary bodies, particularly within the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network. They noted Morocco’s strong and consistent presence at the Network’s conferences, underscoring the considerable importance the North African nation attaches to the work of this influential organization.
