Benin cabinet meetings shift to monthly schedule for stronger governance

During its first session on Thursday, May 28, 2026, under the leadership of President Romuald Wadagni, the newly formed Bénin government laid out its long-term vision for the 2026–2033 term. The inaugural cabinet meeting set the tone for a governance approach centered on accountability, efficiency, and citizen trust.

At the helm of this strategic gathering, the President emphasized the paramount duty of every minister: to uphold the public interest with unwavering dedication and ethical conduct. The government’s roadmap prioritizes poverty reduction, social equity, and balanced territorial development, ensuring that no region is left behind in economic progress.

Key pillars of the administration’s agenda include:

  • National security enhancement to safeguard communities and foster stability
  • Equitable resource distribution through targeted public investments across all departments
  • Institutional discipline to streamline decision-making and boost governmental responsiveness

To operationalize these goals, the Executive branch has adopted a revamped operational framework aimed at improving inter-ministerial coordination and accelerating policy execution. This restructuring marks a shift toward a more agile and results-driven administration.

Moving forward, cabinet sessions will convene on the first Wednesday of every month, replacing the previous irregular schedule. Additionally, the Interministerial Committee will meet twice monthly—on the first and third Mondays—while ministerial cabinets will convene as needed to address department-specific priorities.

With this structured approach, the 2026–2033 government enters its operational phase, committed to delivering tangible results while reinforcing transparency and public confidence.
