Bénin launches advanced security training for future law enforcement leaders

The National Police Academy in Porto-Novo hosted the official kickoff ceremony for preparatory training sessions aimed at securing the Brevet d’Études Supérieures de Sécurité (BESS), the Diplôme d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité (DEMES), and the Diplôme Spécial d’État-Major des Forces de Sécurité.

This pivotal academic milestone signifies a major leap in elevating the capabilities of Benin’s internal security forces. Under the distinguished patronage of Inspector General of Police Kokou Brice Allowanou, Director-General of the Republican Police, the event brought together key figures including military leaders, government officials, police executives, and academic experts.

The ceremony’s highlight was the address by Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, Director of the National Police Academy, who outlined the program’s core objectives. He emphasized the need for participants to cultivate a forward-thinking perspective on national, regional, and global security challenges. “This session boasts a team of elite, highly qualified instructors—both local and international—committed to your success. The curriculum will delve into policing strategies, human and operational resource management, leadership, domestic security, and cross-border security issues,” he explained.

Inspector General Allowanou underscored the critical nature of these advanced training programs and the high expectations placed on future senior security leaders. “These stages represent a golden opportunity to sharpen your professional skills, nurture leadership qualities, and prepare for the greater responsibilities ahead,” he stated. He urged participants to embrace the training with discipline, dedication, and unwavering commitment.

The event concluded with an inaugural lecture delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Parakou, focusing on the theme “Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Security Challenges.”

By launching these advanced programs, the National Police Academy is taking decisive steps to professionalize the Republican Police and cultivate a cadre of security experts capable of tackling today’s evolving threats. This initiative also reflects Benin’s broader commitment to modernizing its vital state institutions.
