Crystal Palace signs promising Israeli winger from Union Saint-Gilloise for £24.5m

The Union Saint-Gilloise is set to receive a substantial financial boost following the departure of Israeli winger Anan Khalaili to Crystal Palace. The Premier League side confirmed the five-year deal on Saturday, with a reported transfer fee of €24.5 million plus performance-based bonuses.

Khalaili, just 21 years old, had initially been linked with a move to Inter Milan over the summer but failed medical tests. Instead, he will join Crystal Palace, fresh off their Conference League triumph last season. The Israeli international arrived at Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2024 from Maccabi Haifa, quickly establishing himself as a key player at the Park Duden stadium.

From bench to star player

His impact was immediate. Khalaili became an integral part of the Union’s historic first league title in 90 years during the 2024-25 season, also contributing to their Belgian Cup victory the following campaign. Playing predominantly on the right wing, he showcased his versatility and attacking prowess, catching the eye of top European clubs.

European exploits and club record

Khalaili’s performances extended to European competitions, where he netted three goals in Union’s debut Champions League campaign, including strikes against Marseille (twice) and Atalanta. His tally stands at eight goals in nearly 100 appearances for the Brussels-based club. He also featured in the Super Cup victory over Club Bruges and played in the third qualifying round against Bodø/Glimt, where he scored in the 3-3 draw. However, he was left out of the squad for the opening league fixture against Westerlo and the Champions League playoff rematch.
