Diouf Criticizes Sonko’s Parliamentary Leadership Approach
The leader of the Awalé party, Abdourahmane Diouf, has sharply criticized Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, in the aftermath of his public remarks in Touba. In a candid social media statement, the former Higher Education Minister didn’t mince words, labeling Sonko as a ‘disruptive lawmaker’ who rose to the helm of the parliamentary institution. The comments come amid escalating tensions between supporters of Diomaye Faye and those backing Sonko, with both sides locked in fierce verbal confrontations.
The outspoken Diouf didn’t hold back in his assessment of Sonko’s leadership. In his post, he questioned the Speaker’s grasp of parliamentary procedures, stating that Sonko’s actions often disregard established rules. He went further, accusing Sonko of failing to embody the moral standards he publicly espouses, while pointing to what he describes as a lack of intellectual rigor in his decision-making. Diouf’s critique extended to Sonko’s reliance on exaggerated rhetoric, which he argued fuels a misguided populist movement lacking substantive direction.
Abdourahmane Diouf, who previously served as Energy Minister, delivered his remarks in a no-nonsense tone, highlighting what he sees as Sonko’s inability to reconcile his public persona with his actions in office. The clash underscores deeper divisions within Senegalese political circles, particularly between factions aligned with different leadership styles and policy approaches.
