El Hadj Amadou Sy to represent Sénégal at CAN U17 2025 preparation stage

The Confédération africaine de football (CAF) has announced the roster of officials invited to the preparatory training session for the upcoming U17 Africa Cup of Nations. This essential stage serves as a final filter before the definitive list of referees is confirmed for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Maroc from May 13 to June 2.

In this preliminary selection, Sénégal is represented by a solitary official: El Hadj Amadou Sy. Once this training camp concludes, CAF will establish the final group of referees tasked with officiating during the CAN U17 in Maroc. Having earned his FIFA international referee status in 2019, the Saint-Louis native continues to demonstrate his professional growth. His career began in the grassroots “navétanes” competitions, where he started in the cadet categories before climbing the ranks to senior matches and eventually becoming a fixture in the professional league of Sénégal.

A veteran of major continental stages, El Hadj Amadou Sy previously served as an official during the 2023 CAN U20 and the most recent edition of the CAN U17. While Sénégal has frequently been represented by multiple officials or even full refereeing trios in past African competitions, Sy will be the lone national representative during this preparatory phase. His goal is to secure a spot on the final roster to represent Sénégal alongside the national youth team participating in the event.

Regarding other nations, several countries have a stronger presence in this selection. Algérie, Cameroun, RD Congo, Maroc, Zambie, and Afrique du Sud each have three representatives. Other footballing nations, including Tunisie, Mali, Nigeria, and Égypte, are represented by two referees on the list.
