Cameroon dismantles major human trafficking network exploiting job seekers
Operating under the guise of networking marketing firms, a criminal syndicate lured young Cameroonians with promises of lucrative overseas employment before ensnaring them in a web of exploitation. The operation came to an abrupt halt when elite gendarmerie units executed coordinated raids across several cities.
Under the guise of network marketing companies, these criminals dangled the prospect of well-paying jobs abroad before unsuspecting victims. The operation collapsed when gendarmerie units conducted synchronized raids across multiple Cameroonian cities.
A total of 13 individuals connected to a transnational human trafficking syndicate have been arraigned before the media at the National Gendarmerie headquarters in Yaoundé. The suspects were presented by Deputy Director of Central Coordination for the National Gendarmerie, Atangana Fiacre Kisito, on June 22, 2026.
The criminal network, operating under various aliases including QNET, IGNITE, and UNIMEC, specifically targeted students, unemployed youth, and job seekers. Through deceptive recruitment tactics, they convinced victims to pay substantial fees for alleged overseas employment opportunities. Two suspected ringleaders, believed to be operating from the Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic, remain at large as investigations continue across several Cameroonian cities.
