Madagascar’s colonel randrianirina explores Libreville’s iconic sites, praises Gabon’s progress

On the second day of his diplomatic engagement in Libreville, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, who presides over the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, embarked on a tour of several distinguished landmarks across the Gabonese capital this past Saturday, June 6. Accompanied by government Vice-President Hermann Immongault, he explored the Cité Émeraude, the scenic Baie des Rois, and the significant Cité de la Démocratie. Within the latter complex, Colonel Randrianirina specifically visited the grand banquet hall, the impressive Congress Palace, and the esteemed Omar Bongo Ondimba Museum.

Following this comprehensive tour, the Malagasy leader conveyed his conviction that the progress witnessed in Gabon underscores an Africa undergoing profound transformation. He asserted that these achievements vividly demonstrate the commitment of African leaders to spearhead innovation and accelerate national advancement. “Everything I have observed in Gabon exemplifies the determination of numerous African presidents to modernize their nations and propel the continent forward,” he articulated. While acknowledging that unique national contexts mean “the processes are not the same,” Colonel Randrianirina commended the substantial outcomes achieved by the Gabonese authorities during their period of Transition.

He reflected that some of Gabon’s accomplishments were widely regarded as challenging, if not impossible, to complete within such a short timeframe, yet Gabon successfully brought them to fruition. Consequently, he affirmed his intention to draw valuable lessons from the Gabonese experience, aiming to bolster the ongoing refoundation process within his own nation.

“We will strive, as you mentioned earlier, to learn from Gabon’s journey to successfully guide Madagascar’s refoundation process, enabling us to bring the country to a presidential election as swiftly as possible,” he emphasized. His stated objective is clearly to steer Madagascar towards presidential elections in the shortest possible timeframe. Colonel Michaël Randrianirina concluded his visit and departed Libreville yesterday, in the mid-morning hours.
