Ousmane Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, addressed the issue of the upcoming local elections during his inauguration rally on Sunday at the Dakar Arena, delivering a clear stance against any potential delay of the vote.
Standing before a large gathering of party members and senior PASTEF officials, Sonko firmly stated that his political party would not support any move to postpone the elections. “PASTEF will not agree to a postponement of the local elections. We are ready,” he declared, drawing applause from supporters.
Continuing his speech, Sonko emphasized that any delay in the electoral calendar must strictly follow the institutional framework provided by Senegalese law. “A postponement of an election in Senegal is only possible with a vote in the National Assembly,” he asserted, urging relevant authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure the election proceeds as scheduled.
The PASTEF leader also appeared to respond to rumors regarding the election timeline. “Let the president sign the decree; slow movement will not change anything,” he said, indirectly addressing President Diomaye Faye.
