An orchestrated counteroffensive is unfolding in real time. Scores of videos circulating across social platforms depict triumphant Tuareg combatants from the Front de Libération de l’Azawad (FLA) or the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) parading atop abandoned Russian-made armored trucks left behind by fleeing Africa Corps mercenaries. Just 48 hours after seizing control of Kidal in northern Mali, the 400-strong Africa Corps paramilitary unit evacuated the city under heavy escort. The FLA confirmed via a statement on platform X the finalization of an « arrangement between Azawad forces and Africa Corps elements to ensure their secure withdrawal » from Kidal.
