The Mayor of N’Djamena, Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, recently spearheaded a significant delegation on an inspection tour of the damaged Hilton discharge site. This critical visit forms part of the city’s urgent efforts to bolster its defenses against potential flooding.
During the on-site briefing, Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, underscored the Hilton discharge site’s immense strategic importance to N’Djamena. He elucidated its dual function: efficiently channeling rainwater away into the river while simultaneously acting as a vital safeguard, preventing river waters from encroaching upon the city during periods of high fluvial inundation.
Rodrigue confirmed that the structure is currently experiencing minor damage, specifically noting a deterioration of the essential flood protection flap. Despite this setback, he provided reassurance that a range of preparatory activities had already been initiated to ready the city for the impending rainy season.
While at the site, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued unequivocal and strict instructions to the Directorate of Roads and Bridges. He mandated that all necessary measures be swiftly implemented to ensure the complete repair of this crucial flap within the coming days, emphasizing the immediate need for decisive action to protect the capital of Chad.
