OGC Nice to play two games behind closed doors after incidents at Allianz Riviera
The disciplinary committee has handed down a stern penalty to Nice’s Allianz Riviera stadium: two full matches behind closed doors and one suspended match. This follows the use of pyrotechnics, pitch invasion, and damage after the final whistle during the Ligue 1 clash against Metz on the final matchday of the season.
The French Football League’s Disciplinary Committee imposed the sanctions on OGC Nice for a series of serious breaches. These include the launching of flares, unauthorized entry onto the pitch, and post-match vandalism during the 34th and concluding fixture of the top-flight campaign.
As a result, the club’s upcoming playoff return leg against AS Saint-Étienne on 29 May will be played without spectators. Nice has already announced its intention to appeal the decision in hopes of allowing fans to attend the crucial match. Meanwhile, the away leg at Geoffroy-Guichard on 26 May will proceed as scheduled, though forward Elye Wahi will miss the game due to suspension.
The decision also affects Nice’s first home match of next season, which will now be played behind closed doors.
A one-match suspension for accumulating five cautions or for breaching suspended terms applies to: Benjamin André (Lille), Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC), Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco), and Elye Wahi (OGC Nice).
In a separate case, Paris Saint-Germain has been penalized with the closure of the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes for pyrotechnic use and visible expressions. This sanction will be enforced during the club’s first home Ligue 1 match of the 2026–27 season.
The disciplinary body has also deferred judgment on FC Nantes following a pitch invasion at the start of their match against Toulouse.
