Norwegian Minister meets Senegalese counterparts to boost bilateral cooperation
Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, paid an official visit to Dakar on May 3–4, 2026, to deepen ties with Senegal.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar hosted Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, during his official visit to Senegal. The two-day trip highlighted efforts to strengthen Norwegian-Senegalese cooperation and foster high-level dialogue.
The Minister held key meetings with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, Abdourahmane Sarr, and the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye.
These discussions covered pressing regional challenges, including security risks in the Sahel and pathways for sustainable development. Both sides also explored global initiatives, such as the UN80 agenda, reaffirming their shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.
At the close of the visit, Norway commended Senegal for its stable democracy and pivotal role in promoting regional peace and economic collaboration.
