Ousmane Sonko lambasts president Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s governance from Touba

From Touba, during the inauguration of his party’s local headquarters, National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko delivered a strong statement, directly challenging the President of the Republic. He sharply criticized Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s “feverish” state management and openly condemned the President’s approach. Sonko further threatened to obstruct future legislation by consistently referring proposed laws to the Constitutional Council, signaling growing tensions in African politics.

Addressing his partisans, and evoking the Mouridism movement’s esteemed legacy of integrity, Ousmane Sonko painted a stark picture of the current executive branch. Echoing recent months’ persistent rumors of internal divisions, the former Prime Minister vehemently denounced a President he characterized as both isolated and susceptible to external influence. He explicitly accused the head of state of being manipulated by specific factions, even within opposition ranks, who are reportedly encouraging him to distance himself from his former political mentor. This development highlights significant shifts in Senegal’s political landscape, a key focus of Africa news and pan-African journalism.
