Senegal’s Prime Minister takes firm stand at National Assembly
During a session dedicated to government questions this Friday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko addressed the National Assembly with a clear and uncompromising message regarding the enforcement of laws against unnatural acts. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to upholding the recently toughened legislation, stating that the law would be implemented with total impartiality and without exception.
Targeting high-level offenders
In a direct warning to those who believe they are beyond the reach of the law, the Prime Minister emphasized that the crackdown would not be limited to minor cases. Ousmane Sonko explicitly stated that “big fish” would also be pursued and brought before the courts. He explained that the administration’s primary goal is the total eradication of this phenomenon across Sénégal, ensuring that justice is served at every level of society.
A message of national sovereignty
Beyond internal enforcement, the Prime Minister utilized the platform to respond to Western nations that have voiced reservations about the country’s legal direction. He maintained that Sénégal is a sovereign state and rejects any external interference or lessons regarding its domestic policies. This firm stance reflects the sovereignist principles that have characterized his leadership since he assumed power, reinforcing the idea that the nation’s legal framework is determined solely by its own values and representatives.
