Senegalese opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has delivered a firm statement via social media, marking a significant shift in the political landscape.

Following extensive consultations with the President of the Republic, persistent disagreements remain unresolved. Sonko revealed that while some common ground was found during their meeting, fundamental differences persisted—particularly regarding the role of the majority party within the executive framework, whose structure remains unclear.

«This morning’s lengthy meeting between the President of the Republic and myself confirmed areas of agreement, but also highlighted critical points of disagreement, especially concerning the position and role of the majority in the executive structure, about which we have no clarity,» Sonko stated.

As a result, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the next government and will not be represented by any ministers, the party announced.

In a spirit of responsibility and in line with the commitments of the PASTEF Executive Committee (COMEX), reiterated by President Ousmane Sonko upon his installation in the National Assembly, the party engaged in multiple discussions with the President of the Republic to shape the new government.

This morning’s meeting between the President of the Republic and President Ousmane Sonko confirmed areas of agreement but also underscored key disagreements, particularly regarding the role of the majority within the executive structure, whose composition remains undisclosed.

Following a debriefing session with party leadership, new proposals were submitted to the President of the Republic, though no favorable response was received.

Consequently, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the next government and will not be represented by any ministers.
