With just over a year until the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026 kick off, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has positioned the event as a transformative national project.

During the annual Concours général awards ceremony, where the nation’s brightest students are honored, the President called on the youth to dedicate their knowledge and excellence to the greater good.

The theme of this year’s ceremony—“Senegal at the dawn of the Youth Olympic Games: rebuilding the meaning of common good through Olympic values”—set the tone for his address.

Historical responsibility for Africa

For President Faye, Dakar 2026 represents far more than a sporting spectacle. Senegal’s role as the first African nation to host an Olympic event, he emphasized, is a historic responsibility for the continent.
