Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been crowned the Premier League’s best transfer of the season after an outstanding debut campaign with Manchester United. The 23-year-old defensive wall received this prestigious accolade following a stellar performance that saw him outshine several high-profile newcomers to England’s top flight.

Among the other nominees for the award were Chelsea’s João Pedro, Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka, Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki, Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert, Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo, and Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Lammens joined Manchester United from Antwerp last summer for a reported €21 million, quickly establishing himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Immediate impact at Old Trafford

The young Belgian made his Premier League debut in October against Sunderland and has since been an ever-present figure in Erik ten Hag’s lineup. In his maiden season in English football, Lammens demonstrated remarkable consistency, featuring in 37 league matches while conceding just 45 goals and securing eight clean sheets. His reliability at the back has been pivotal in Manchester United’s resurgence, with the club finishing third in the Premier League standings.

Praise from football legends

Lammens’ impressive displays have not gone unnoticed by footballing icons, with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand recently heaping praise on the young goalkeeper. Speaking on a podcast, Ferdinand described Lammens as a natural fit for Old Trafford, emphasizing his potential to become a club legend.

“He’s been superb, and he’s young. What I love about him is his age—he’s going to continue gaining experience and will only get better from here. I believe he’s destined to stay at Manchester United for the next ten years; he’s going to become the number one.”

While Lammens’ future at Manchester United looks assured, he will be playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois at this summer’s European Championship. Nevertheless, the Belgian’s star is undeniably on the rise, with his performances suggesting a long and successful career ahead.
