Sonko mourns the passing of serigne abdou bakhi mbacké

National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko conveyed his profound grief following the death of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, which occurred on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, he honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.

« With deep sorrow and overwhelming emotion, I received the news of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké’s passing to eternal life as the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote.

Recalling his personal encounters with the revered guide during visits to Guinguinéo, he shared, « I had the honor of meeting Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké on multiple occasions. Each interaction was marked by his warmth, genuine affection, and unwavering kindness, leaving a lasting impression on me. »

During this « painful moment, » Sonko offered his « heartfelt condolences » to the late leader’s family, the Mouride community, the people of Guinguinéo, and all Senegalese citizens.
