UNESCO Yaoundé hosts Chadian delegation to advance digital education

Yaoundé’s UNESCO regional office recently facilitated a pivotal study mission aimed at bolstering digital integration in Chad’s education sector. The five-day program, held from April 20 to 24, 2026, brought together Chadian officials to examine Cameroon’s proven strategies in educational technology adoption.

Chad’s education transformation in focus

The study mission aligns with Chad’s ambitious National Development Plan (2022–2026), the Tchad Connexion 2030 vision, and the National Teacher Policy. These strategic frameworks prioritize inclusive, equitable access to quality education through progressive digital integration. The Chadian School Refoundation Program—backed by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with UNESCO and UNICEF support—serves as the cornerstone of this transformation.

In a region where structural challenges often impede educational progress, digital solutions offer a pathway to enhanced teaching quality, broader access, and improved governance. The Chadian delegation’s visit to Cameroon, a regional leader in educational technology, provided critical insights into practical implementation approaches.

Key program highlights

Structured around institutional meetings, technical site visits, and collaborative workshops, the mission focused on:

  • Institutional exchanges: Discussions at Cameroon’s Ministry of Basic Education covered pedagogical, curricular, and organizational dimensions of ICT integration
  • Teacher training mechanisms: Examination of digital tools and professional development strategies
  • Partnership frameworks: Analysis of multi-stakeholder collaborations supporting systemic change
  • Field observations: Firsthand assessment of technology-enabled classrooms and administrative systems

Methodology and expected outcomes

The mission employed a rigorous approach combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, and collaborative working sessions. This methodology aims to:

  • Identify transferable best practices
  • Document contextual adaptation strategies
  • Develop actionable recommendations for Chad’s education sector

Deliverables will include a comprehensive mission report and a prioritized action plan to guide Chad’s digital education integration efforts.

Strengthening regional education systems

This initiative underscores the UNESCO regional office’s role in fostering innovation and cooperation across Central Africa. By facilitating knowledge exchange and collaborative learning, the mission contributes to building more resilient, future-ready education systems across the subregion.

Through shared expertise and adapted solutions, Chad and its neighbors can accelerate their digital transformation while addressing unique local challenges.
