Pope Léon XIV has appointed Monsignor Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelization. This appointment has been welcomed by barrister Akere Muna.
Andrew Nkea Fuanya has been elevated by Pope Léon XIV. The prelate now serves as a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches. His duties will involve supporting the Holy See in nurturing young Churches and guiding missionary efforts worldwide.
This appointment has drawn praise from Akere Muna, a Cameroonian civil society figure. The lawyer stated that this recognition is not only a profound acknowledgment of Andrew Nkea Fuanya’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service, and unwavering dedication to the Church, but also a powerful testament to the light he continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa, and the universal Church.
“I am confident that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity, and fatherly compassion that have characterized his ministry over the years,” wrote the lawyer. Monsignor Andrew Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. Elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on 30 April 2022, he plays a key role in peace dialogue in crisis-affected regions.
