As a key figure in Didier Deschamps’ France squad, Aurélien Tchouaméni remains a vital presence during the 2026 World Cup. Off the pitch, however, the 26-year-old midfielder is at the centre of growing transfer speculation. After being linked with Manchester United, Chelsea now appears to be the latest Premier League club showing serious interest in the Real Madrid star.

At 26, Aurélien Tchouaméni stands at a crossroads in his career. Having endured a particularly challenging 2025-2026 season with Real Madrid, the defensive midfielder—who came through the ranks at Girondins de Bordeaux—has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs.
Chelsea ready to make a move for Tchouaméni?
Following earlier rumours involving Manchester United, Chelsea are now reportedly monitoring the situation closely. According to journalist Miguel Serrano, the Blues—and especially their new manager Xabi Alonso—could look to sign Aurélien Tchouaméni if Enzo Fernandez leaves the club this summer. Alonso, who worked with Tchouaméni during his time at Real Madrid, is said to hold the Frenchman in high regard. However, Fabrizio Romano recently pointed out that the player’s salary could be a stumbling block.
The Frenchman’s hefty wage poses a challenge
“The two issues surrounding Tchouaméni remain the same. First is the salary. He earns a big wage, and for now, that’s not something Manchester United wants to take on. United like him and see him as a fantastic player. But as things stand, Real Madrid are not inclined to open the door for Tchouaméni. A phone call from Real Madrid to Manchester United saying he’s for sale hasn’t happened. If it did, United would be ready to try. But there’s the salary problem, and the fact that Real Madrid haven’t yet opened the door,” the Italian journalist explained.
