Chelsea secures second-most expensive Premier League signing with Rogers deal

Chelsea FC completes deal for rising English star Morgan Rogers

Chelsea Football Club has finalized the acquisition of 23-year-old English international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, marking a significant coup for the Blues ahead of the upcoming season.

The London-based club announced via its official channels that Rogers has signed a long-term contract binding him to Stamford Bridge until 2033. The young forward will join Xabi Alonso’s squad as the team prepares for the new campaign.

Rogers’ ascent in English football

Rogers arrives at Chelsea following a standout spell at Aston Villa, where his attacking contributions were instrumental in securing 40 goals and assists across 85 Premier League appearances. His performances helped guide the Villans to a fourth-place finish in the league while also lifting the Europa League trophy last season.

The England international has already made 22 appearances for the Three Lions since his debut in November 2024, including a standout showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role in England’s third-place finish.

A record-breaking transfer

Chelsea’s recruitment of Rogers comes with a reported fee of €117 million (£138 million), positioning it as the second-most expensive Premier League signing to date. Only Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer, valued at £125 million, surpasses this deal.

The chase for Rogers initially saw Arsenal emerge as the frontrunner, but Chelsea’s swift intervention secured the talented forward, sparking excitement among Blues supporters.

To celebrate the signing, Chelsea shared a video on social media platform X, with the caption “He chose Chelsea”, underscoring the club’s successful pursuit of the young talent.
