Rabat is set to host a pivotal gathering on Thursday, July 16, as top officials from Morocco and France convene for the fifteenth high-level meeting between the two nations. The event underscores the deep-rooted diplomatic and economic ties that have long defined their relationship.
Under the banner of an exceptional and strengthened partnership, the meeting will be co-chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and President Emmanuel Macron of France, reflecting the strategic importance of this bilateral dialogue. A government communiqué confirmed the agenda, highlighting the shared vision for collaboration across multiple sectors.
Speaking ahead of the talks, French Ambassador Philippe Lalliot emphasized the tangible progress being made in cities like Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and Laâyoune. «From Rabat to Laâyoune, where I recently inaugurated the first Alliance Française in the region, our discussions aren’t just about envisioning the future—they’re about building it, one step at a time,» he remarked. The Ambassador was joined by Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, who represented the Moroccan government during the discussions.
The diplomatic gathering comes at a significant moment, following President Macron’s historic letter to King Mohammed VI in July 2024. In that correspondence, France reaffirmed its stance that «the future of the Sahara is intrinsically linked to Morocco’s sovereignty.» This recognition has further solidified the foundation for cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Lalliot also highlighted France’s role as Morocco’s leading foreign investor and employer, with French enterprises playing a foundational role in the country’s industrial growth for over a decade. «France is not just a partner in words; it is a driving force behind Morocco’s economic development,» he noted.
The discussions are expected to address three core priorities: tackling global challenges together, strengthening security frameworks, and fostering economic sectors that will shape the future. Additionally, the leaders will focus on deepening cultural and social ties, with a special emphasis on youth exchanges—seen as the cornerstone of the long-term Franco-Moroccan relationship.
