Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco deepen ties to advance shared African development goals
During a high-level meeting in Rabat, Côte d’Ivoire’s Foreign Minister, Kacou Adom, reaffirmed his country’s unwavering commitment to supporting Morocco’s royal-led initiatives aimed at fostering Africa’s growth. The declaration came following intensive discussions with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, underscoring the depth of bilateral relations between the two nations.
«Côte d’Ivoire fully endorses these initiatives and stands alongside Morocco to ensure their successful implementation in line with His Majesty’s vision,» stated Minister Adom. He emphasized the dynamic role of Morocco’s private sector in bolstering Côte d’Ivoire’s economic development, highlighting its contribution to the country’s infrastructure and industrial progress.
The ministers also agreed to reconvene soon to assess the progress of the Economic Impetus Group, a joint platform designed to enhance bilateral trade and investment flows. The aim is to revitalize the group’s operations, making it more effective in driving economic collaboration between the two nations.
Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Foreign Minister, expressed deep gratitude for Côte d’Ivoire’s consistent stance on the Sahara issue, a matter of vital importance to the Kingdom. «Côte d’Ivoire has long been a steadfast ally of Morocco on this existential cause,» he noted, adding that the country’s position has earned immense respect from His Majesty the King, Moroccan citizens, and key stakeholders nationwide.
«Your nation is not only a strong bilateral partner but also a leading African reference for Morocco,» Bourita remarked, praising Côte d’Ivoire’s regional influence. He further highlighted the country’s pivotal role in advancing Morocco’s flagship initiatives, including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which holds special significance for His Majesty the King. The project is advancing rapidly, particularly after receiving approval from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the intergovernmental agreement underpinning its construction.
This strategic encounter in Rabat signals a renewed commitment to strengthening political, economic, and regional cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco. From steadfast support for Morocco’s Sahara sovereignty to active participation in continental projects, the partnership between the two countries remains a cornerstone of Morocco’s diplomatic and economic engagement in Africa.
