He acknowledged the demanding path they collectively chose to walk over the past decade, highlighting the challenges overcome, reforms implemented, and major projects undertaken to strengthen the state and align public action with socioeconomic development.
My fellow compatriots,
This coming Sunday, May 24, 2026, Mr. Romuald Wadagni will be sworn in as the newly elected President, officially assuming his duties. He will then have the honorable and challenging mission of guiding our nation toward greater progress, collective well-being, and individual prosperity.
At this pivotal moment, I would like to extend my warmest wishes for his success in the seven years ahead.
As I prepare to leave office, I want to express my deepest gratitude to you all. I am immensely proud of the journey we have undertaken together over the past decade—of the challenges we faced, the reforms we implemented, and the transformative projects we initiated to build a stronger state committed to serving socioeconomic development.
Admittedly, this path was not always easy. Often, it was fraught with obstacles. Yet, these very challenges made the journey worthwhile and inspired us to persevere.
Today, the world looks on with admiration at the progress we have made. Our efforts and sacrifices are bearing fruit, and this is a testament to our collective strength. All Beninese—those in urban centers, rural areas, and the diaspora, young and old—can take pride in this achievement.
It has been an honor to lead this remarkable journey and serve our beloved country. My gratitude to Benin and to each of you knows no bounds.
I would also like to acknowledge the indispensable role of a remarkable woman who stood by me with affection and patience, her guidance proving invaluable in this endeavor. I am referring to Mrs. Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi, spouse of Talon, whom I thank wholeheartedly.
Additionally, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all those who surrounded me with love, friendship, and unwavering support—your contributions enabled me to give my best.
As I pass the baton to President Romuald Wadagni, I am confident that under his leadership, our nation will continue to make significant strides toward fulfilling its destiny as a great nation.
With the foundation we have built and an unshakable determination to reach even greater heights, I have no doubt that together, we will rally around him to advance Benin’s progress, fostering well-being, pride, and prosperity for all.
Long live the Republic!
Long live Benin!
