Former Senegalese President Macky Sall will arrive in Dakar this Friday for a brief visit. Two years after leaving office, he is making a rare public appearance in the capital to meet with current leader Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Sall, who is campaigning for the United Nations Secretary-General position, still needs official backing from Senegal for his bid. He submitted his candidacy in February, but the country has yet to formally endorse his campaign, despite a March statement denying any involvement in initiating his nomination.

Political dynamics in Senegal may shift following tensions between Faye and his former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Meanwhile, calls for accountability over alleged human rights violations under Sall’s administration continue to grow.
