Following the Chadian military’s participation in Cameroon’s National Unity Day parade, Yaoundé and N’Djamena are taking concrete steps to reinforce a long-standing defense partnership rooted in shared security priorities and enduring military camaraderie.

The day after Cameroon’s 54th National Unity Day celebrations, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening military and diplomatic cooperation. Deputy Minister to the Presidency in charge of Defense, Mr. Beti Assomo Joseph, hosted Chadian Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamous, in Yaoundé on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

A high-level working session took place at the Ministry of Defense conference hall, where Cameroonian and Chadian military leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral defense ties and address regional security challenges. According to a ministry communication release, the meeting underscored the countries’ shared commitment to reinforcing cooperation based on mutual security interests and sustained military solidarity.

The Chadian delegation, led by General Issakha Malloua Djamous, was received in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cordiality. Discussions primarily focused on enhancing cooperation between Cameroonian and Chadian defense forces and tackling common security threats facing the subregion.

This working session also highlighted the alignment between Yaoundé and N’Djamena on key strategic issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining close collaboration to bolster regional stability and security.

The Chadian National and Nomadic Guard detachment, invited as special guests for Cameroon’s National Unity Day, made a strong impression during the parade on Boulevard du 20 Mai in Yaoundé. Their participation symbolized the excellence of military cooperation and fraternity between the two nations’ armed forces.

Beyond military considerations, the meeting reflects the determination of Cameroonian and Chadian authorities to preserve and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between their peoples. Through this engagement, Cameroon reaffirms its dedication to deepening strategic partnerships with neighboring countries in a spirit of peace, security, and African integration.
