Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s shrewd strategy to secure Yan Diomandé for Paris Saint-Germain

This could very well be one of the most significant transfers of the summer window. Yan Diomandé, who has been a standout performer for Côte d’Ivoire at the 2026 World Cup, is a highly coveted player in the transfer market. All indications suggest he is drawing closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain. To finalize this crucial deal, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is reportedly activating his extensive network of connections.

Paris Saint-Germain has significantly ramped up its efforts in the transfer market. To offset the anticipated departures of Gonçalo Ramos, who is likely headed to AC Milan, and Lee Kang-In, reportedly close to signing with Atlético de Madrid, the capital club has intensified its pursuit of several targets. Among these are Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco and, more recently, Yan Diomandé of RB Leipzig. The Ivorian winger, who continues to impress at the 2026 World Cup, was a primary target for Liverpool but has ultimately opted for Paris Saint-Germain.

Al-Khelaïfi’s strong ties with RB Leipzig’s leadership

The next challenge involves convincing RB Leipzig to part with their rising star. This is where Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s influence becomes paramount. The PSG president is personally overseeing the financial negotiations for transfers, and his excellent rapport with Oliver Mintzlaff, the chairman of RB Leipzig’s supervisory board, is expected to streamline the process. Mintzlaff also serves on the board of the European Football Club (EFC), an organization chaired by Al-Khelaïfi himself. Consequently, the Qatari executive aims to secure the most favorable price for Yan Diomandé, aligning with PSG’s new policy of avoiding overpayment for players. Liverpool previously saw two offers exceeding €100 million rejected for the player. However, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi also plans to leverage the player’s clear desire to join PSG to sway RB Leipzig.

Yan Diomandé poised to fulfill his father’s dream?

Yan Diomandé himself had previously acknowledged PSG’s interest during a press conference. “My future? I have a team managing that. I’m trying to stay as focused as possible. I’ve loved PSG since I was a child. I believe my father was a PSG supporter. But I’m not projecting into the future; I’m staying focused on the World Cup. We will see what happens next,” he stated before a friendly match between France and Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the World Cup tournament.
