Dakar Mobilizes for Rainy Season Flood Prevention
Senegal security – As the rainy season approaches, the Prime Minister has issued a firm directive to ministers responsible for flood prevention to implement critical measures ahead of time. During Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting, clear instructions were given to ensure comprehensive preparedness.
Immediate Action on Emergency Plans and Alert Systems
The Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for several key actions, including the updating and validation of all municipal emergency plans, as well as thorough checks on the functionality of early warning systems and communication channels. These steps are vital to minimize risks when heavy rainfall begins.
Interministerial Coordination and Resource Deployment
Ministers were also tasked with advancing the pre-positioning of intervention resources and organizing a cross-ministerial simulation exercise before June 15, 2026. This proactive approach aims to enhance coordinated responses to potential flooding.
The Prime Minister highlighted the substantial preparatory work already underway by the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation, along with other state services. Efforts include clearing drainage networks, inspecting flood-control structures, positioning water pumps, and developing emergency response strategies.
Strengthening Synergy Across Government Agencies
Given the cross-sectoral nature of flood prevention, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of seamless collaboration among all government departments. The Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation will lead these efforts, with the Ministry of the Interior supporting civil protection and crisis management components.
