Senegalese transport minister rebukes sonko over touba remarks

In a firm response to recent declarations, Senegal’s Minister of Terrestrial and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, addressed comments made by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko regarding the holy city of Touba. Sonko’s visit to the city sparked controversy when he alleged that illicit funds had been funneled into the sacred site. Speaking on national television, Ndiaye dismissed these claims as a profound disrespect to Touba’s residents and their spiritual heritage.

« Portraying Touba as a hub for illicit financial activities is not just inaccurate—it is an affront to the dignity of its people and the teachings of Serigne Touba », the minister asserted. He emphasized that the dignified and principled nature of Touba’s inhabitants makes such accusations entirely baseless, calling them a grave misjudgment of the city’s moral standing.

The absence of local leaders during Sonko’s visit, Ndiaye noted, further underscored the community’s rejection of these allegations. « The leaders of Touba, like all Senegalese, are committed to integrity and transparency. To suggest otherwise is to ignore the very foundations of their faith and values. »

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Senegal’s President, also received praise from Ndiaye for his unwavering commitment to addressing Touba’s concerns. « The President understands the significance of Touba to our nation. His policies reflect a deep respect for its people and their aspirations. »

unwavering support for national leadership

The minister went on to commend Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo for his efforts in resolving long-standing issues under the President’s guidance. « His dedication to national progress is commendable, and he remains a pillar of stability in our government. »

Ndiaye concluded by urging Senegalese citizens to set aside political divisions and unite behind the nation’s development. He described President Faye as an unwavering patriot, dedicated solely to the country’s advancement despite persistent attempts to undermine his leadership. « His only focus is the prosperity of Senegal, and his resolve remains unshaken. »
