Tchad: ISJCT and AMET unite to strengthen media training

A landmark collaboration between Chad’s top journalism school and leading media associations aims to uplift local journalism through hands-on training, internships and continuous professional development.

Partnership between ISJCT and AMET to transform media training in Chad

N’Djamena, 6 August 2026 – Chad’s premier journalism training institute, the Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT), and the Association des Médias en Ligne du Tchad (AMET) have formalized a groundbreaking partnership. The agreement solidifies ties between academic training and industry professionals, paving the way for a sustainable leap in media quality across the country.

Bridging the gap between theory and practice

The partnership includes structured internships for ISJCT students within AMET member outlets, offering real-world experience and smoother transitions into professional roles. It also amplifies the visibility of the institute through the association’s extensive network, fostering stronger connections between educators and practitioners.

Building a culture of lifelong learning

Central to the collaboration is a commitment to ongoing training and upskilling for journalists and media managers. Workshops will cover cutting-edge topics such as digital journalism, fact-checking, newsroom management, media business models, artificial intelligence integration, ethical standards, journalist safety, and other pressing challenges facing the sector today.

Voices from the frontline

Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, representing the ISJCT project team, emphasized the transformative potential of such collaboration: “An institute cannot thrive in isolation. The media are not just partners in education—they are our classrooms, our testing grounds, and the future employers of our graduates.”

AMET President Bello Bakary Mana welcomed the initiative as a game-changer. He stated that it empowers media companies to shape the next generation of journalists while providing existing professionals with invaluable opportunities to refine their skills. “This partnership brings excellence within reach,” he said.

Backed by global support

The ISJCT initiative is driven by the NGO MEDEV and receives backing from Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie. The institute is set to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026, with a bold mission to become a leading hub for initial training, research, innovation, and professional development in journalism, communication, and media management.

The ISJCT represents a visionary step toward establishing Chad’s first higher education institution dedicated entirely to journalism, communication, and media management—equipping the nation with the talent and tools needed to navigate a rapidly evolving media landscape.
