The Ministry of Mines celebrated a milestone event on June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hotel in Kinshasa. Officials awarded prizes to top graduates from the National School of Administration (ENA) who had participated in the prestigious Buanya Excellence Competition. This initiative, spearheaded by Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba, challenged 48 young administrators to develop innovative solutions for the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) mining sector.
innovative minds tackle mining challenges
The competition drew 48 administrators, organized into six teams, who spent weeks researching and analyzing critical mining issues. Their proposals covered governance, resource transparency, fraud prevention, artisanal mining regulation, geological exploration, fair profit redistribution, and new mining project development. The minister emphasized that the DRC’s global role in energy transition demands responsible transformation of its mineral wealth into sustainable development drivers.
a vision for responsible mining governance
Minister Kabamba challenged the winners to become ambassadors of excellence and integrity, stressing that future mining governance must prioritize meritocracy, innovation, transparency, and measurable results. This initiative aligns with President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision, implemented under Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, which places human capital development and good governance at the heart of public policy.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo, symbolizing the promising future of administrative youth in transforming the DRC’s mining sector. The event highlighted the government’s commitment to engaging bright young minds in addressing the nation’s most pressing economic challenges.
