
The 51st General Assembly of the Assemblée parlementaire francophone (APF) formally opened its proceedings on July 9th in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This significant international gathering saw the presence of numerous high-ranking officials, including the President of the Cameroonian Senate, the President of the Cameroonian National Assembly, and the President of the Cameroonian Economic and Social Council. Louise Mushikiwabo, the esteemed Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), also graced the event alongside other distinguished guests. More than 350 delegates convened for the assembly, a robust representation featuring nearly twenty presidents and vice-presidents from APF member parliaments, as well as representatives from the OIF, various diplomatic missions, and international organizations. A delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly actively participated in this crucial forum, highlighting its commitment to global parliamentary engagement.
The agenda for this 51st APF General Assembly is carefully structured to address pressing global issues. Key discussions are centered on priority areas such as politics, democratic governance, economic development, social welfare, cultural exchange, and environmental sustainability. The primary objective of these deliberations is to foster enhanced parliamentary cooperation among member states and collectively forge effective solutions to the shared challenges confronting the wider Francophone Community. This focus on critical topics underscores the APF’s dedication to promoting stability and progress across its diverse membership, providing valuable opportunities for pan-African journalism and discussions on African politics in English within the broader Francophone context.
