In a significant stride towards enhancing public well-being, WAPCO (Niger), in close partnership with the local Department of Livestock, recently executed a comprehensive livestock vaccination and deworming initiative across the Zinder region. This vital program successfully reached seven nomadic pastoral communities, including the notable areas of N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, providing essential care to over 10,000 animals. This accomplishment marks the triumphant conclusion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s impactful “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now extended their reach to all regions situated along the pipeline route.

To further bolster the health management capabilities of the local populace, WAPCO (Niger) strategically mobilized its internal medical resources. Leveraging on-site medical professionals and essential medications, the company launched two pilot programs for complimentary community medical consultations near Pumping Stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These pilot clinics were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from residents. Building on this initial success, a more extensive needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official commencement of the first phase of the “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven free community medical consultations, delivering vital healthcare services to 1,249 local individuals, and has also generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.

During the implementation of these free medical outreach events, the company’s team gained crucial insights into the local economy, recognizing that livestock represents a fundamental source of income and livelihood for many families. It became evident that pastoralists had an urgent requirement for animal healthcare services. In direct response to these significant community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) strategically broadened the scope of its “Healthy Communities” endeavors. Collaborating with regional livestock authorities and other key stakeholders, WAPCO (Niger) provided comprehensive vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three primary pastoral gathering points along the pipeline, thereby empowering herdsmen to safeguard their essential productive assets.

As a dedicated and socially conscious enterprise, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of reciprocal benefit and shared progress since its inception. While diligently ensuring the secure and consistent operation of the pipeline, the company places paramount importance on fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) actively champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), contributes through various public interest donations, and extends crucial aid to communities. The organization is deeply committed to enhancing local livelihoods and fostering societal advancement, thereby continually strengthening the population’s “sense of belonging and benefit” and cultivating an external environment conducive to the pipeline’s safe operation.

Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to intensifying its community needs assessments to precisely address the evolving expectations of the communities along the pipeline. The company plans to systematically broaden the scope of its public interest initiatives, ensuring that an increasing number of residents can partake in the advantages of development. While guaranteeing the secure and efficient functioning of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) pledges to continue collaborating closely with local communities, implementing tangible measures to elevate living standards and foster mutual growth and shared prosperity for both WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
