Arsenal ends 20-year wait to claim 14th english league title
Manchester City’s goalless draw at Bournemouth secured Arsenal’s 14th English top-flight crown, ending a 22-year drought. The Gunners now lead the Premier League by five points with one matchday remaining.
Arsenal have ended a two-decade title drought, lifting the Premier League trophy for the 14th time in their history. The Gunners claimed the crown without needing to wait for the final matchday after Manchester City could only manage a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. Under the guidance of manager Andoni Iraola, Arsenal have transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with, delivering consistent performances throughout the season.
The Cherries’ resilient display against the Citizens denied Pep Guardiola’s side any hope of catching Arsenal. While Erling Haaland’s late equalizer offered a glimmer of hope, it arrived too late to prevent City from slipping further behind in the title race. Meanwhile, Eli Junior Kroupi’s stunning strike for Bournemouth, just before halftime, ensured Arsenal’s lead remained intact.
Kroupi’s brilliance seals Arsenal’s historic triumph
Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert played a pivotal role in the Cherries’ performance, nearly scoring himself before setting up Kroupi for a breathtaking goal. The former Lorient forward received a 50-meter pass from Truffert, controlled the ball effortlessly, and unleashed a powerful right-footed strike past Gianluigi Donnarumma into the top corner. The goal, scored in the 39th minute, gave Bournemouth a 1-0 lead and left Manchester City stunned. Kroupi, who had recently turned down a call-up to represent Portugal at the World Cup in favor of future opportunities with France, added another goal to his tally, bringing his season total to 13.
Before Bournemouth’s opener, Manchester City had three clear chances to take the lead. Jérémy Doku’s early effort was comfortably saved by Petrovic, while Antoine Semenyo’s goal was ruled out for offside after a clever retreat by Truffert. Haaland also saw his shot blocked by Evanilson, highlighting City’s struggles to convert their dominance into goals.
Guardiola’s final season ends in disappointment
City’s pressure failed to materialize into goals, and they crumbled defensively before the break, conceding the decisive goal. They showed more intent in the second half, with Petrovic making a crucial save against Nico O’Reilly in the 46th minute. However, their resurgence was short-lived despite the introduction of substitutes Savinho, Cherki, and Foden in the 55th minute.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, created several high-quality chances. Donnarumma made a crucial save from Evanilson’s header in the 52nd minute, while Rayan hit the post in the 62nd minute. The Cherries continued to threaten, with Brooks also striking the woodwork in the 89th minute. Despite Haaland’s late consolation, City’s lack of composure and determination cost them dearly. The draw marked the end of their title ambitions, leaving Guardiola to reflect on a season that, while still successful, fell short of the ultimate prize. The Citizens will, however, depart with two domestic cups to their name after a decade in Manchester.
