Chad advances digital education reform with national validation workshop

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training hosted a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena to validate a groundbreaking diagnostic report, paving the way for the country’s first-ever National Strategy for Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education (TVET). Gathered on July 10, 2026, key stakeholders from across the sector reviewed, enriched, and approved the document that will underpin this ambitious digital overhaul.

This initiative is part of the Pan-African Initiative for the Digital Transformation of TVET Systems, supported by major continental bodies including UNESCO, OIF, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program. The goal? To modernize Chad’s technical and vocational training landscape sustainably, ensuring graduates meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.

The pre-strategy assessment engaged over 200 participants from 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers (CFTPs) and supporting institutions. Through field missions and digital data collection, researchers covered every academic district in the country to compile a comprehensive baseline analysis.

Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, opened the session on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education. He emphasized that digital transformation is no longer optional but a strategic imperative for aligning training systems with technological shifts and emerging professions. The government is positioning digital tools as the driving force behind TVET modernization.

While the report highlights significant progress, it also uncovers critical gaps in governance, digital infrastructure, internet connectivity, power supply, trainer upskilling, and the integration of digital literacy into curricula. Dr. Gabriel urged attendees to refine the document collaboratively, ensuring the final strategy is practical, inclusive, and reflective of Chad’s unique socio-economic landscape.

Once approved, the validated report will serve as the foundation for developing the National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan (2026–2030). The ultimate vision? A high-performing, future-ready technical education system that equips young Chadians with the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
