Chad and Burkina Faso strengthen counter-terrorism alliance

The escalating security crisis across the Sahel has pushed Chad and Burkina Faso to forge a stronger defense partnership. In a significant move, high-level security delegations from N’Djamena and Ouagadougou convened this week to lay the groundwork for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

A senior delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, met with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, the day before the announcement. Their discussions centered on deepening security collaboration, with a sharp focus on combating terrorism, as outlined in a joint statement from Chad’s security ministry.

« This meeting serves as a precursor to a broader joint commission aimed at strengthening Burkina Faso-Chad cooperation in the fight against our shared threat: terrorism, » explained Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Minister of Public Security and a member of the delegation. He emphasized how both nations are leveraging their shared history and operational experiences to build a security framework that aligns with ground realities.

The Chadian delegation expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception in Ouagadougou, expressing hope that this momentum will evolve into a robust, sustainable security partnership rooted in mutual respect and national sovereignty. The joint communiqué underscored that this new phase of cooperation will advance through scheduled bilateral steps, particularly within the framework of the upcoming joint commission tasked with refining collaboration strategies.
