Chad clears CEEAC dues to reinforce regional unity

On July 13, Chadian Head of State Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno received a high-level delegation from the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEEAC), led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the organization’s current Council of Ministers president. The meeting marked the presentation of CEEAC’s newly appointed leadership team, including Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as Commission President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice President.

The most significant outcome of the discussions was N’Djamena’s commitment to settling all outstanding financial obligations to the regional bloc. President Déby explicitly instructed his cabinet to clear Chad’s backlog of contributions to the CEEAC budget, emphasizing the need for consistent future payments. A government statement highlighted that this move “demonstrates Chad’s unwavering commitment to the organization’s operational efficiency.”

During the engagement, Déby underscored Chad’s renewed dedication to the CEEAC, commending the organization’s pivotal role in supporting transitions in both Chad and Gabon that restored constitutional order. He pledged continued political, economic, and financial backing for the community, reinforcing Chad’s strategic alignment with regional goals.

CEEAC officials outlined their mandate’s core priorities and key challenges, outlining plans to accelerate economic integration through expanded intra-regional trade, upgraded transport infrastructure, enhanced free movement of people and goods, and strengthened the free trade zone. Rosario Mbasogo Kung, in concluding remarks, stressed that the bloc’s success hinges on both institutional action and member states’ collective resolve to transform Central Africa into a zone of peace, unity, prosperity, and solidarity.
