Burkina Faso’s newly deployed digital traffic enforcement system demonstrated remarkable efficiency just half a day after its nationwide activation on August 1st at midnight. Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana personally inspected the real-time monitoring operations at the Video Surveillance Supervision Center in Ouagadougou. He was accompanied by Zakaria Hebie, Director General of Transmissions and Information Technology, who oversees the technical implementation.

The minister commended the technical teams for their rapid and professional deployment of the system. Within the first twelve hours, the technology flagged 1,099 traffic violations, including seatbelt non-compliance, red-light running, speeding, and handheld phone use while driving. Notably, five offenders had already settled their fines through the FASO ARZEKA digital payment platform.

Speaking after the inspection, Minister Sana emphasized that these early results prove the system’s operational readiness and the government’s commitment to leveraging digital innovation for enhanced road safety. The ministry stresses that strict adherence to traffic regulations remains the most effective way to prevent violations and accidents.
