Gabon strengthens ties with India under new ambassador Aurélien Mintsa Mi-Nguema

Gabon has reinforced its diplomatic presence in Asia with the appointment of Aurélien Mintsa Mi-Nguema as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of India. Following his official confirmation by the Council of Ministers on February 26, 2026, the diplomat presented his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu on July 6, marking a new chapter in relations between Libreville and New Delhi.

This appointment aligns with Gabon’s broader strategy to diversify its international partnerships and deepen economic ties with global economic powerhouses. The handover of credentials at the presidential palace in New Delhi symbolized the start of a mission dedicated to strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as mining, trade, infrastructure, agri-food, health, and technology.

India emerges as a cornerstone of Gabon’s economic diplomacy

The Indian subcontinent has become a focal point for Gabon’s foreign policy under President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. With over 1.4 billion inhabitants and a rapidly expanding economy, India presents significant opportunities for trade expansion and foreign investment.

The warm reception extended to Ambassador Mintsa Mi-Nguema underscores the positive state of relations between Gabon and India. This partnership is expected to intensify as Libreville seeks to broaden its economic horizons and attract more foreign capital.

New ambassador tasked with expanding bilateral cooperation

Beyond formalities, Aurélien Mintsa Mi-Nguema’s role involves not only maintaining existing bilateral cooperation but also identifying fresh avenues for collaboration that support Gabon’s development goals. This initiative is part of a wider effort to position diplomacy as a driver of national transformation.

India’s expertise in technology, infrastructure development, and resource management makes it an ideal partner for Gabon’s economic diversification strategy. The timing of this appointment coincides with Gabon’s intensified efforts to enhance its standing in global economic circles and forge mutually beneficial alliances.
