High security surrounds Chad supreme court hearing for succès masra appeal

The Supreme Court in N’Djamena is under heavy guard today, with enhanced security measures enforced by the national defense and security forces. This includes the National Guard, gendarmerie, and police units deployed to maintain order.

Access to the Supreme Court premises is tightly controlled, with strict screening procedures in place. Multiple journalists and camera crews have been denied entry to the courtroom where the hearing is taking place.

Inside the courtroom, a small, restricted chamber hosts the public hearing. The session brings together the President of the Supreme Court and a team of nearly a dozen defense attorneys representing Dr. Succès Masra, leader of the Les Transformateurs political party.

This hearing focuses exclusively on the appeal filed by Dr. Masra’s legal team against the August 9, 2025 ruling by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals. That decision sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
