addressing Burkina Faso’s humanitarian crisis
Since 2019, Burkina Faso has experienced escalating humanitarian challenges driven by political instability, security threats, and climate-related shocks. By 2024, the situation had intensified dramatically: 2,938 security incidents were recorded, leaving 6.3 million people—including 2.4 million internally displaced persons—in urgent need of assistance. Within this vulnerable population, 2.7 million face food insecurity, while 611,500 individuals (480,000 children and 131,500 women) suffer from severe acute malnutrition. Additionally, 1.7 million people require emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene support.
our integrated humanitarian response
Action contre la Faim employs a holistic approach combining emergency relief with sustainable development strategies. Our Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM-Frontline) enables swift deployment across multiple regions, delivering critical aid including:
- Emergency food assistance to combat hunger and malnutrition
- Shelter and non-food item kits for displaced families
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs to prevent disease outbreaks
- Mobile health clinics providing urgent medical care
- Livelihood support programs to restore economic stability
- Psychosocial support addressing trauma and mental health needs
Our interventions span seven regions through collaborative projects with international partners including the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
