Legal action launched against Ousmane Sonko over Touba remarks

Legal action has been initiated against Ousmane Sonko, former Prime Minister, current National Assembly President, and leader of the PASTEF party, following controversial statements made about the holy city of Touba.
A collective representing the grandchildren of Serigne Touba has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Dakar High Court. The complaint seeks an investigation into remarks Ousmane Sonko made during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters, where he alleged that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba,” according to the plaintiffs.
The complainants, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, and economic operators, are also descendants of Serigne Touko’s lineage. They argue that these statements have tarnished the honor, reputation, and image of Touba, as well as the dignity of its residents.
In their legal submission, they call on the prosecutor to open an inquiry, summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify his remarks, and present any evidence supporting his claims. Additionally, they request a full investigation to determine the veracity of these allegations.
