Lucas Chevalier on the move? PSG goalkeeper attracts foreign interest

Just one year after his big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain, Lucas Chevalier finds himself in a tough spot. Left out of the World Cup squad, the 24-year-old shot-stopper could leave the French capital this summer. While waiting for a clear signal from PSG’s hierarchy, two foreign clubs have recently made inquiries about the former Lille man. Here’s what we know.

What does the future hold for Lucas Chevalier? Signed for €55 million (including bonuses) last summer, the goalkeeper who came through Lille’s academy endured a very difficult first season at PSG. Dropped down the pecking order by Matvey Safonov, the Calais-born player is facing a busy summer regarding his future. As revealed this Tuesday, Chevalier—left out of Didier Deschamps’ World Cup plans—is currently on holiday, waiting to learn more about PSG’s intentions for his future at the club.

Besiktas makes a move for Lucas Chevalier

Importantly, several clubs have recently come forward to gather information about Lucas Chevalier. Tottenham Hotspur had shown interest. But most recently, it’s Besiktas that has tested the waters in this affair. The Turkish club is searching for a top-level goalkeeper and has decided to look into the situation of the 24-year-old. However, should Chevalier leave, he is expected to prefer a more attractive project.

“To regain confidence, he needs to look elsewhere”

Consultant Laure Boulleau recently stated that a departure this summer would be the best option for Lucas Chevalier: “I don’t take any pleasure in knowing he had a catastrophic, cataclysmic season. He really needs to bounce back—I don’t believe he became a bad player overnight. He must regain his confidence, and to do that, he needs to look elsewhere. He has to go somewhere where he can be happy and rediscover the qualities we know he has.”
