The Aiglons have successfully defended their territory. OGC Nice confirmed their presence in the French top flight for next season by defeating AS Saint-Etienne 3-1 at the Allianz Riviera on Friday evening. After a dull first leg that lacked any real spark, the return match delivered plenty of drama and high stakes for both sides.

The breakthrough for the home side came late in the game. Just moments after Zuriko Davitashvili had leveled the score for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 79th minute, teenager Kail Boudache restored the lead for Nice. The 19-year-old found the net in the 81st minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and putting his team back on track for survival.
The victory was cemented in the closing stages by Elye Wahi. The forward struck twice, first in the 87th minute and again in stoppage time (90+2), to ensure there was no way back for the visitors. The final whistle triggered massive celebrations among the players and staff on the Nice bench, as they officially secured their place in the elite.
By winning this crucial playoff, Nice avoids the drop alongside Nantes and Metz. This result ensures a 25th consecutive season in the first division for the club during the 2026-2027 campaign. Conversely, Saint-Etienne, who were relegated at the end of the 2024-2025 season, will have to endure at least one more year in the second tier of French football.
