Senegal women’s football team faces Tunisia in la28 olympic qualifiers

The Senegalese women’s national football team is set to face Tunisia in the second round of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic qualifying tournament, with a two-legged tie scheduled for October 2026.

The draw for the African Women’s Olympic Football Qualification Tournament took place last Wednesday, April 29, finalizing the complete bracket for an event spanning from June 1, 2026, to December 4, 2027. The competition will unfold in five knockout rounds, featuring home-and-away matches.

Opening round and early matchups

In the initial round, the six lowest-ranked teams according to the FIFA rankings will compete. The Sudan will take on the Comoros, South Sudan will face Madagascar, and Mauritius will go head-to-head with Djibouti.

Second round and Senegal’s path

All other nations will join the fray in the second round, kicking off in October 2026. Among the high-profile encounters is Morocco, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations runner-up, facing Congo. A potential rematch with Nigeria, the reigning African champions and Paris 2024 qualifiers, could unfold as early as the third round.

The Senegalese team will face Tunisia in the second round. The victor of this tie will then advance to face the winner of the Mali vs. Benin matchup. Algeria’s journey to Los Angeles begins in the Central African Republic, while Zambia, which competed in Paris 2024, must overcome Uganda before potentially challenging Ghana to secure a third consecutive Olympic berth.
