Senegal’s spiritual leader calls for peace and national unity ahead of Grand Magal
The city of Touba is abuzz with preparations for the Grand Magal of Touba 2026, a pivotal event in the Mouride brotherhood’s calendar. On July 30, the Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, paid a courtesy visit to the spiritual leader of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké. This meeting underscored the deep connection between faith and governance in Senegalese society.
The Speaker conveyed his deepest respects to the Khalife général, emphasizing the spiritual and historical significance of the Grand Magal. This annual pilgrimage commemorates the exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the revered founder of the Mouride movement.
