Taxawu Sénégal transitions into formal political party under Khalifa Sall

Taxawu Sénégal, led by prominent political figure Khalifa Sall, has officially transformed from a political platform into a structured party during a landmark congress held at Dakar’s Grand Théâtre.

The event drew massive crowds of supporters, who arrived adorned in the party’s colors, waving banners and chanting slogans in a display of unwavering political passion. Attendance reflected the growing influence and momentum of the movement.

Uniting forces: political figures rally behind Taxawu Sénégal

Several key political personalities joined the congress, including:

  • Bamba Fall, Mayor of Médina;
  • Alioune Ndoye, Mayor of Dakar-Plateau;
  • Aïssata Tall Sall;
  • Oumar Sarr, Coordinator of the Front pour la République (FDR);
  • Me El Hadji Diouf;
  • Zahara Kane Thiame.

The organizing committee also confirmed that six political parties and multiple movements officially joined Taxawu Sénégal by signing the party’s founding charter during the congress.

Khalifa Sall labels current governance as deeply flawed

In his closing speech, Khalifa Sall described the event as an “acte fondateur” — a foundational moment marking Taxawu Sénégal’s official inauguration as a political party. He painted a bleak picture of the nation’s state, declaring that Sénégal is ‘in the 20th basement’, a metaphor for the severe challenges gripping the country.

The leader did not shy away from direct criticism of the ruling administration, declaring:

« They are stuck in Baara Yegoo… but we’ve seen through their game. »

The phrase, widely interpreted as a scathing indictment of government practices, underscores growing public frustration with leadership and accountability.

Call for unity among opposition forces

Khalifa Sall urged opposition groups to unite in trust and solidarity, emphasizing the need to forge a strong collective front to address pressing political and social challenges. He reflected on the movement’s journey — marked by trials, victories, and political realignments — and praised the dedication of militants and allied forces who have joined the party.
