Togo and Brazil deepen bilateral ties in Lomé meeting

The President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, met with Brazil’s Ambassador to Togo, Luiz Ivaldo Villafañe Gomes Santos, in Lomé on July 30, 2026. This engagement underscores the ongoing dialogue between the two nations, highlighting their shared commitment to strengthening a partnership built on mutual cooperation and open communication.

During the meeting, the Brazilian diplomat outlined the current state of relations between Lomé and Brasília, while also exploring potential avenues for collaboration in key areas of mutual interest. He reiterated Brazil’s readiness to expand this cooperation for the benefit of both populations.

« We reflected on the long-standing ties between our countries, our bonds of friendship and cooperation, and our shared determination to further advance these relations for shared progress, » stated Luiz Ivaldo Villafañe Gomes Santos following the discussions.

Broadening South-South collaboration

Decades of diplomatic progress

Diplomatic relations between Togo and Brazil, established in 1972, have flourished across multiple sectors including agriculture, security, vocational training, and technological exchange. A significant milestone was reached in November 2018 with the signing of a reciprocal visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports in Lomé.
